Announcement

​

The Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA), with generous support from the Bilgin family (Dr. Nilüfer Esen Bilgin and Dr. Tayfun Bilgin) is pleased to announce the ATAA Graduate Student Scholarship for the American Association of Teachers of Turkic Languages (AATT) Graduate Student Conference (online). This scholarship recognizes exceptional academic work in Turkish Studies and supports emerging scholars in the field. Up to two graduate students will each receive a $1,000 award for their outstanding research and contributions presented at the conference.

Scholarship Details

  • Award: $1,000 USD scholarship for two students (recipient one-time only)

  • Number of Recipients: up to 2

  • Disbursement: Checks will be issued directly by the donors through ATAA.​​

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all the following conditions:

  • Be affiliated with a Turkish Studies Program and enrolled in a graduate program at a recognized institution of higher education in the U.S. or Canada.

  • Be conducting graduate-level research in Turkish language, history, or related topics

  • Be attending and presenting at that year’s AATT Annual Graduate Student Conference organized by the American Association of Teachers of Turkic Languages (AATT).​

Award Announcement

The awardee(s) will be announced:

  • The following week of the AATT Graduate Student Conference, first being in 2026.

  • During the AATT Annual Business Meeting in November of that year.

​

Awardees are expected to:

  • Be present at the announcement event(s)

  • Be present at ATAA Annual Conference personally or send a video message.

  • Submit a short reflection piece for the AATT and ATAA Newsletter, describing how this scholarship supports their academic journey.

  • Awardee(s) bios will be shared at the ATAA website.

Application package should include:

  • The abstract - written in English

  • Full paper – written in English

  • The institutional affiliation, address, phone number, and e-mail of the author

  • The name and email address of the author’s academic advisor

  • Materials should be emailed to the AATT secretariat aattsecretariat@gmail.com by the deadline.

  • No additional materials will be considered as part of the submission.

  • Applications must be submitted through the AATT website and send their application package: aattsecretariat@gmail.com 

  • Please write ATAA Graduate Student Scholarship to the subject line.

Deadline to Apply:

31 March 2026 (19th AATT Graduate Student Conference Abstract Submission Deadline)

We invite eligible graduate students to apply and look forward to celebrating the important contributions they make to the growing field of Turkish Studies in North America.

Note: 19th AATT Graduate Student Conference will be held fully online in May 2026 – Exact date TBA in January 2026

The 10th annual AATT Conference will take place ONLINE on October 17, 2025. ​

​

18th AATT Graduate Student Conference

AATT’s 18th Graduate Student Conference will take place on May 9 at 11:00AM-1:00PM (EST) virtually via Zoom.

The AATT Graduate Student conference aims to support and promote research that significantly utilizes sources in Turkish or other Turkic languages by graduate students from fields including but not limited to literature, history, linguistics, language education and related fields at North American academic institutions.  It also offers a collaborative platform for the student presenters to share their work and exchange research ideas with their peers and the colleagues in attendance from the field.

Feel free to share this invitation with colleagues and friends who might be interested in attending. We look forward to your participation and the unique perspectives you’ll bring to the table.
